JPA North Shore

LIevent_edited.jpg

Jewish Parent Academy – is a high-level Jewish education program designed to give Russian-speaking Jewish (RSJ) parents background information, tools, and vocabulary to shape their own and their children’s Jewish journeys. The animating question that guides our work is “How do we instill strong and proud Jewish identity in our children?”

A 10-class course led by world-renowned thinkers and academics is a unique opportunity for RSJ parents to learn about their heritage (Russian Jewish history), delve in the world of Jewish ideas (Jewish values, Zionism) and many other topics that inform and strengthen our unique brand of Jewish identity. JPA classes are filled with discovery and vibrant discourse. They are a place to meet like-minded, intellectually curious adults and to deepen connection to the Jewish intellectual tradition and to your immediate Russian-speaking Jewish community.

Originally established in Brooklyn in 2016, JPA expanded its geographic reach to include Manhattan, Livingston(NJ), and National cohorts by working with active local RSJ leaders to launch regional JPA programs. In 2023, we are excited to partner with the North Shore, LI leadership team* to establish the inaugural JPA North Shore cohort.  We hope to inspire hundreds of Long Island RSJ families to engage in learning and discovery of the rich and diverse ex-Soviet Jewish heritage, traditions, and history. In addition, we aim to grow and strengthen the community though fostering leadership, volunteerism and philanthropy.

JPA curriculum includes the following topics:

  • To Be a Jew: Quest for Jewish Identity in a Modern World

  • The Journey of the Jews of Russia: From the Pale to the Capital

  • An Old Faith in the New World: The History of American Judaism

  • Jewish Holiday Cycle - an Affair: relationship between the Jewish people and G-d

  • Jewish Text: Composition, Transmission, and Interpretation.
